Meet the Faculty & Staff

Dr. Barber was drawn to William & Mary "because of the value it places on good teaching. I bring experience as both a practitioner and a researcher, and try to incorporate each perspective into my teaching. My practical experience as a student affairs administrator and my research experience with the Wabash National Study of Liberal Arts Education complement one another to provide a strong foundation for exploring complex issues like student development and integrative learning."

Dr. Shillingford was drawn to William and Mary for several reasons; her advisor at UCF was a William and Mary graduate, so she knew the program well. The school's academic reputation drew her as well as the enthusiasm of the doctoral students she spoke with during the interview process. She was impressed by how open and positive William and Mary students are. "They are eager to go out and change the world."

Dr. James Stronge, a faculty member in our EPPL General Administration emphasis, has gone global in his recent research endeavors. Dr. Stronge is currently involved in three research projects, all of which relate to his research interest in teacher effectiveness. One study is an international comparison of national award-winning teachers, another is a project that compares U.S. and Chinese teacher beliefs and practices, and the third study examines national award-winning teachers who work with at-risk and highly-mobile students. An additional area of research that he is currently pursuing is teacher effectiveness and teacher evaluation in American schools in South America.
