Making Math Discourse Come Alive in Your Classroom Math discourse is vital part of the learning process. However, making rich, authentic math discourse come alive in the classroom is not an easy task. This highly interactive workshop will feature many strategies for fostering deep, rich math discourse in the classroom. Participants will engage in a wide range of rich tasks, extend their understanding through rich discussion, and learn how to implement effective practices for promoting math discourse in their own classroom. In addition, participants will leave with over 100 ready-to-use classroom resources. Come prepared to engage with innovative, intriguing math tasks – and be ready to share your thinking with others!

The Power of Progressions: Untangling the Knotty Areas of Teaching and Learning As more teachers look to add high-yield tasks to their repertoire, the struggle to make it all work becomes real. Let's examine how problem-based lessons can be used throughout the scope of a unit and how we can harness their power to move student thinking forward. We'll identify strategies and explore some tasks that help us find a healthy balance between application, conceptual understanding, and procedural fluency.

Integrating Desmos and Desmos Calculators into Math Instruction (4-function and scientific calculators) During this workshop, the presenter will introduce pedagogical and technological techniques for increasing student achievement and interest in mathematics. In particular, the presenters will illustrate how free Desmos technology can enable that process. Explicit attention will be given to the use of the Desmos 4-function and scientific calculators.

Math Workshop Math workshop is an instructional model that integrates the best of number-sense routines, problem-solving, classroom discourse, guided-math groups, and intentional reflection. This workshop will briefly overview the math workshop model before diving into the specifics of implementation and helping prepare participants for successfully integrating math workshop into their own classrooms.
