Staff and Advisors
Recognizing the importance of collaboration for effective prevention services, Project EMPOWER enlists the efforts of professionals and students from various school-related disciplines to conduct prevention curricula in local schools.

Pamela Gamble, Student Assistant Pam is a second year graduate student in the School Psychology program. She taught preschool for 10 years, including three years as an administrator at Willowbrook International School in Tokyo, Japan. She worked for three years as a phone counselor on a crisis phone line. When not in class, she volunteers with CASA, the Court Appointed Special Advocate program in Williamsburg. She loves getting to know the students and faculty at Warhill High School. |

Denise McCuistion, Student Assistant After earning her undergraduate degree in psychology, Denise McCuistion taught for over 10 years, so she feels right at home working in the school district. She has also volunteered with various paraeducational youth groups and support groups over the past 20 years. She especially appreciates the collaboration between teachers, administrators and the students, and feels her listening skills have really helped her to join in that collaboration. She believes her work with Project EMPOWER is helping to build a foundation for her future career as a school counselor. |

Natoya Haskins, Student Assistant Counselor Education Natoya is a doctoral student in the Counselor Education program at The College of William and Mary. She received a Masters of Education in Counselor Education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2005 and a Masters of Divinity in Theology from Virginia Union University in 2008. She has spent numerous years working with urban and surburban populations in Virginia as a secondary school counselor and school counseling director. Upon the completion of her Doctorate of Philosophy and Licensed Professional Counselor requirements she aspires to obtain a position as a counselor education faculty member at a university on the east coast. In her spare time she enjoys reading and traveling. |

Katie Hermann Counselor Education Katie is a second year Counseling Education doctoral student coming from Corpus Christi, Texas where she completed a Masters program in Community Counseling. She completed her undergraduate degree in Economics and Management at Rice University in Houston, Texas. Time spent as a volunteer at a rural Belizean mission influenced her decision to study counseling. Katie hopes to teach at the collegiate level while perusing her research interests in young adult development, holistic counseling, and the influence of technology. |

Toni Johnson School Counseling Toni is a first year graduate student in the School Counseling program. After working in marketing and business for several years, Toni taught English in Guinea, West Africa with the Peace Corps. Toni returned with a desire to continue working in education and advocating for underserved populations. Toni is dedicated to working with families who are homeless or effected by domestic violence. In her free time, Toni enjoys spending time with her niece and nephews. |

Chris Yowell School Psychology Chris is a first year graduate student in the School Psychology program. He earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in English from James Madison University in 2007. He spent two years working with children and adults with intellectual disabilities and mental health concerns before coming to Williamsburg in Fall 2009. He is exited about working in the EMPOWER program, and hopes to continue improving/building on his listening skills, education, and experiences working with people of different backgrounds. In his free time, Chris enjoys outdoor activites, watching movies, and cooking. |

Dr. Sandra B. Ward, Professor (2003, 1990), M.S. and Ph.D., The Pennsylvania State University; B.S., College of William and Mary. Teaching: Individual intelligence testing, practicum and internship in school psychology, the young child: psychological assessment and clinical methods, and consultation. Research: Intellectual assessment, profile analysis, psychodiagnosis, and classification. |
