Honored with the 2013 award from ATE-VA

Christine Ammirati works with ESL studentThe College of William and Mary English as a Second Language Partnership Program has been named for the 2013 School/University Partnership Project Award by the Association of Teacher Educators—Virginia (ATE-VA).

The College of William and Mary ESL Partnership Program works with three school divisions: Henrico County Public Schools, Williamsburg/James City County Public Schools and Newport News Public Schools.   This School/University Partnership Project Award includes teachers and administrators in those three school districts, Arts and Science faculty in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the College of William and Mary, and Curriculum and Instruction faculty and staff in the School of Education at William and Mary.  Thus far the partnership has involved more than 650 constituents including faculty members, administrators, pre-service students, teachers, and K-12 ESL students. These professionals support language learning for ESL students, and hope to continue and expand these efforts in the years ahead.

Leading the effort are Dr. Gail McEachron, Professor and ESL Program Director and Ms. Valerie Gooss, Educational Specialist, ESL and World Languages, Henrico County Public Schools.  "We are grateful to the members of the school-university partnerships who have provided the perseverance and passion to make this possible on behalf of ESL students throughout the eastern region of Virginia and places beyond," said Dr. McEachron.
