Jordan Adair '78 lauded by Secretary of Education

Jordan Adair

Since 1983, each U. S. Presidential Scholar has invited his or her most inspiring and challenging teacher to travel to Washington, D.C. to receive a Teacher Recognition Award from the U. S. Department of Education and to participate in the recognition events.  This year Jordan Adair '78, son of Professor Emeritus Dr. Fred Adair and the late Martha Adair, has been recognized by Arne Duncan for that award.

Jordan won the 2007 Upper School Excellence in Teacher Award at Durham Academy, one of five handed out each year (one for each division at the school). In addition to his father, who first planted the seed in his mind of a career in teaching, Jordan wanted also to thank Dr. Mark Gulesian, supervising instructor, and Ms. Bunny Akers, cooperating teacher, both of whom helped him immensely during his student teaching at Lafayette High School.  It was this experience through the School of Education at William and Mary and the feedback he from received from both Dr. Gulesian and Ms. Akers that shaped his teaching most fundamentally.
