Field experiences are a central component of the preparation of teachers and other school personnel, including school counselors. The Office of Teacher Education and Community Engagement (OTECE) collaborates with School of Education faculty and with partners in the K-12 schools to arrange and support appropriate placements with qualified field supervisors for teachers and school counseling candidates.
As a reminder, students in the teacher preparation programs must pass Praxis I as a pre-requisite to student teaching. Also, teacher and school counseling candidates are responsible for complying with the policies of their respective school division placements regarding background checks and TB testing.

The systematic evaluation of teacher and school counselor candidates' performance in clinical experiences is critical to the effective preparation of professional educators. Pre-professional candidates and their supervisors regularly complete evaluations using the School of Education's online assessment system.
